Muddy Run is a 100-acre lake off the Susquehanna that feeds Exelon Power’s Muddy Run Pumped Storage Facility, generating electricity for the surrounding area during peak demand periods. Muddy Run is a prime spot for birding, offering many different areas and habitats for observation. There are open grass fields, a dock/boat launch off one of the main parking lots, access to the water all around the lake, a 2.7 mile hike around the lake, paths through the forested areas surrounding the lake, and nearly 700 acres of woodland and meadows available to be explored. It is a great spot for observing waterfowl, but it’s location and diverse habitats make it incredible for birding.
